Scar Massage in Leeds & West Yorkshire
Scar release massage is gentle, hands-on work with scar tissue that helps your body heal. Not only on the surface, but at a deeper physical, energetic and emotional level.
I came to this work through my own healing after two caesareans. Scars, to me, are so much more than a physical appearance. They affect our mobility, our menstrual health, our bowel and bladder movements, and they hold emotions and memories too.
When our mind may have healed from our physical experience, has our body?
If you'd like to understand the work itself before you think about booking, I've written about what scar therapy is and where it comes from.
What types of scars can be worked with?
Scar release massage can be used with many different kinds of scarring, including:
- Caesareans
- Surgical scars, including laparoscopic, mastectomy, hysterectomy, appendix and gallbladder
- Trauma and accident scars
- Burn scars
- Injury scars
- Keloid and hypertrophic scarring
It doesn't matter how long ago the scar happened. Scar tissue can be worked with at any stage, though you do get better results between eight weeks and eighteen months after surgery.
Caesarean scar massage
Caesarean scars are something I feel really passionate about. As a mum of two, both born by caesarean, I understand the complicated relationship many women have with that scar. It's where your baby came into the world, and yet it can also be a source of pain, numbness, emotional disconnect or physical restriction that nobody really prepared you for.
Caesarean scar tissue affects far more than the surface of your skin. The layers involved in a caesarean run deep, and when adhesions form, which they often do, they create tightness in the lower abdomen, tension in the hips and lower back, bladder sensitivity, and a feeling of disconnection from your womb space.
There's a page of its own for this, if it's the scar you're carrying: c-section scar massage in Leeds.
How I trained
I trained with Restore Therapy, founded by Emma Holly, who has spent around thirty years working with scar tissue and now teaches practitioners across the UK, in the NHS and in private practice. The training is two days in person, and it covers specific scar massage techniques, cupping and negative pressure, stretching, kinesiology taping, and how to teach you the self-care you'll take home.
I'm also a trained Mizan Womb Therapist, which is why womb massage often finds its way into a scar session when the body asks for it.
What happens in a session?
Your first session begins with a conversation. I want to understand your scar's history, how it came about, how it feels now, whether it causes you pain or restriction, how you're feeling emotionally, and what you're hoping to get from the work. There's no rush.
The massage itself is gentle and always done with your comfort in mind. I work around and on the scar using light to medium pressure and specific techniques, and sometimes some energetic work, depending on what your body is asking for. I use breathwork throughout, and sometimes womb massage techniques and reiki. You'll always be told what I'm doing and why, and you're in control the whole way through.
Afterwards we'll talk through the self-care you can do at home to support your healing between sessions.
If you're in the early months after birth, you may also find my postpartum massage and closing ceremonies helpful alongside the scar work.
Who is scar release massage for?
It might be right for you if:
- You have a caesarean scar that feels numb, tight or uncomfortable
- You've noticed a change to your menstrual health, or your bowel or bladder
- You're experiencing lower back or hip pain that started after surgery
- Your scar pulls, itches, or feels like it's stuck
- You feel emotionally disconnected from your scar, or from that part of your body
- You have an older surgical scar you've been told nothing can be done about
- You want to work with a scar before it causes further restriction
It's also worth knowing this isn't only for women in physical discomfort. Many women come to me simply because they want to make peace with their scar. To stop feeling like it happened to them, and start to feel like it's part of their story.

A note from me
If you're reading this and wondering whether scar release massage could help you, my honest answer is that it's worth finding out. So many women come to me carrying something in their scar that they've never had the space to address. The body holds a lot, and it responds beautifully when it's finally given some attention.
If you've got questions before you book, just ask. I'd love to talk.
Beaming love your way,

Frequently Asked Questions
No. It should never be painful. I work within your comfort level and ask you for feedback the whole way through. Some areas around a scar can feel quite sensitive at first, which is completely normal, and we move at whatever pace feels right for you. This session is yours, not mine.
I wait until the scar is fully closed, the scab has come away and the surface is smooth, which is usually around eight weeks after surgery. If you're not sure whether you're ready, get in touch and we can talk it through.
Yes. Scar tissue responds at any stage, even years after the original surgery or injury, and many of the women I see have been carrying their scar for a long time. You do get better results between eight weeks and eighteen months after surgery, but it's never too late to start.
I honestly can't tell you that before I've seen your scar. It depends on the scar itself and on how regularly you do the self-care at home between sessions. We'll talk about it in your first session once I know what we're working with.
I'm based in Leeds and I see women from right across the city and the surrounding areas, including Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Halifax, and into North Yorkshire around Harrogate and Knaresborough. For visits outside Leeds, travel is quoted individually and I'll tell you the cost before you book.
Yes, I work with men and with children. Children need to be accompanied by an adult throughout the session.
Loose, comfortable clothing, with trousers that can be lowered easily so I can reach the scar. You'll be covered with sheets and towels throughout, and I always ask before I do anything.
